Derick proved to be a team player, extremely motivated and he has that rare combination of design chops, developer know-how plus the ability to communicate with all ranges of personalities. Having worked in the design and technology field for over a decade, I can say Derick is a rarity.

One of Derick's strongest assets is his ability to work with anyone and stay focused on the task at hand. From a development perspective, Derick has a rare combination of artistic (front-end) and analytical (back-end) development skills. He is an all around great guy and someone I would hire in an instant given the opportunity.

Derick is a kind, thoughtful, and insightful leader. When we worked together, he was a great mentor and sponsor. He has a natural ability to bring people together and create safe and engaging workspaces. I saw Derick’s genuine care and investment in each person on our team, as he brought out the best in each of us.

Derick was my lead on a highly technical project that had quite a substantial developer-to-designer ratio. He is passionate about all voices being heard and valued which made my job much easier. Another great leadership trait Derick possesses is the ability to recognize strengths among his team and give room for those strengths to shine. I always felt empowered to do the best work I could by Derick and I know the rest of the team felt the same way.

Derick is a great leader to work with. I got to learn a lot since he leads both design and front-end engineering, and I valued his ability to bring both disciplines together in the pursuit of a well-made product. We worked with Derick during the difficult pandemic time, in a remote setup, and it was a privilege because of the culture, team spirit, and warmth that he brought as a leader.

One of the things that impressed me the most was his ability to foster honesty and teamwork within all of us. Derick created a work environment where everyone felt valued and encouraged to share their ideas and opinions openly. This not only improved the overall quality of our projects but also strengthened our team bonds. His dedication to accessibility and collaboration was truly inspiring and had a significant impact on the entire engineering and design teams.

His leadership style has consistently motivated us to strive for excellence. He has a remarkable ability to break down complex problems into manageable tasks, ensuring that each team member understands their responsibilities and goals. His clear communication and effective delegation have promoted a sense of ownership and accountability among team members, resulting in a smooth workflow and timely project deliveries.

Derick brings a strong passion and deep experience to front-end development. While we worked together at IBM Security, he always kept our designs and design systems honest, ensuring they both could be technically implemented and accessible for all users. Derick is also a great mentor to junior designers and deeply cares about the well-being of his team.

Working with Derick was a joy. He is one of those special engineers who cares about usability and aesthetics and goes the extra mile to take care of the details pesky designers sweat over. I've never seen Derick in a bad mood; his energy is infectious, and he really makes an impact on the teams he works with. He is a great communicator and always made himself available when I needed him.

I often relied on his broad domain experience and standards-driven product expertise to inform the final design. Not only had he proven himself an extremely proficient front-end developer, he’s courteous, approachable and not afraid to accept tough challenges.

Derick is passionate about good work, equally on both the design and code side. He won't say something is well done until he looks at the code for it. I very much enjoyed working with Derick, he is a rare breed of technical skill and sense of design.

His strong focus on usability and his ability to speak and translate between the sometimes very different languages of the business folks, the creative types and the technical geeks truly make him stand out among his peers. He is passionate about what he does and that passion is infectious.

For a little over 3 years Derick and I were part of the Title Source web team. Derick was always there to explain how the site works as well as how things we change affect usability and SEO. He is an amazing motivator and his up beat attitude always makes the hardest projects seem less daunting.

Derick was a huge part of our team at Title Source. He brought a warm smile and positive attitude to work every day. There aren't too many people that are both a gifted designer and a top notch programmer which makes Derick stand out from the crowd. His focus is on usability and he rightfully believes that the end user should be at the center of all design decisions.

I worked with Derick on a couple of revisions for the front end website and Derick was a dream to work with. Derick strives to create positive user experiences and works to resolve even the slightest corrections. Derick is highly motivated and works very well leading others to follow his high standards.
